Dr. Dawson is a pioneer of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) in Jamaica and founder of the Rehabilitation Institute of the Caribbean, the country’s first multidisciplinary rehabilitation facility.
She serves as Head of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and is the only physician in Jamaica with U.S. board certification in Physiatry.
Dr. Dawson trained at UWI and completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the United States, followed by a fellowship in Interventional Spine, Musculoskeletal, and Sports Medicine Rehabilitation at Northwestern University/Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Her work focuses on helping patients; both adults and children, recover function after injury or illness, with expertise in interventional spine procedures and spasticity management. She also plays a key role in sports medicine, serving as a team doctor for Jamaica at major international competitions and treating athletes at all levels.
